History

The Children’s Hospital in Glasgow is a well established, world renowned institution. The first hospital was opened in 1882 and we moved to our current location within the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Campus in 2015.

The hospital was designed specifically to meet the needs of children, and we provide a high quality service in a state-of-the-art facility. It was designed in conjunction with our patients, families, and health-care professionals who work here.

Prior to the opening of the new Royal Hospital for Children, a new laboratory facility was built on site, providing some of the most modern facilities in the UK and enabling ground breaking research and pioneering treatments to be developed.

The campus also hosts an equally modern hospital for adults, a first class maternity unit, the Institute of Neurosciences and a wide variety of rehabilitation services, as well as an ultra modern learning facility.

We are proud to deliver the gold standard model of maternity, paediatric and adult acute hospital care on a single site.
